About Adidas

Adidas was founded by Adolf “Adi” Dassler who made sports shoes in his mother’s scullery in Herzogenaurach, Germany after his return from World War I. In 1924, his older brother Rudolf joined the business and they became Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory. They assisted in the development of spiked running shoes. During World War II, they were able to spare their factories by convincing the GIs that the company, as well as the employees, just wanted to make shoes. American occupying forces also became major buyers of their shoes. The brothers had a falling out and split up in 1947. Rudolf started Puma and Dassler formed Adidas AG in 1949. The brothers never reconciled and there was business rivalry between the two as well as within Herzogenaurach. The three-striped logo was acquired in 1952 and the company was bought by a French industrialist after the death of Adolf Dassler’s son in 1987. Soon after production was moved to Asia. In 2006, they started a deal with the NBA. Today, you can find Adidas in many different stores and as of 2021, there were over 900 concept stores and over 1,000 factory outlets. Their headquarters are in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
