About Mad River Glen
Mad River Glen was started when Roland Palmedo built the Single Chair at Stowe Mountain Resort in the 1930s. Palmedo was a Navy pilot and wanted to start working towards his dream so scouted the area to find General Stark Mountain. The ski area developed over the years with a vision of the community as its foundation. They opened in 1949 with five trails. In 1995, the Mad River Glen Cooperative was formed. Mad River Glen is now the only ski area in the nation on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by more than 1,800 individual ski owners. They now have 60 runs.
