Vietnam War Veterans Day

Vietnam War Veterans Day Celebrations Across the Nation

UPDATE: With the ongoing cancellations of events nationwide due to the coronavirus, please make sure to check local schedules for the following events.

March 29th is National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This was made official in 2017 when President Donald Trump signed the Vietnam War Veterans Recognition Act of 2017. Back on March 29th, 2012, President Barack Obama proclaimed the day as Vietnam Veterans Day.

March 29th was chosen because on March 29, 1973, Military Assistance Command, Vietnam was disbanded and the last US combat troops left the republic of Vietnam.

Throughout the United States, there will be different events you can participate in to honor Vietnam veterans, which The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recognizes as all those who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during the U.S. involvement in Vietnam, November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975.

You might see that some of these celebrations are called the “50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.” That is because the 50th Anniversary is going to be celebrated from May 28th, 2012 through November 11, 2025, as part of the United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration.

The National Cemetery Administration (NCA)

The National Cemetery Administration (NCA) will recognize, honor, and thank Vietnam Era veterans and their families this March. These national cemeteries will conduct a publicized Vietnam Commemorative ceremony to include a wreath-laying and presentation of lapel pins to recognize and honor Vietnam veterans and their families within the community. You can view the list of cemeteries here.

In addition to the ceremonies at the cemeteries, more than 9,000 organizations across the country, joined with the Department of Defense as a Commemorative Partner to help Americans honor our nation’s Vietnam veterans.
