About GEICO Pet Insurance
GEICO is an acronym that stands for Government Employees Insurance Company. The company was founded in 1936, by Leo Goodwin Sr. and his wife, Lillian Goodwin to provide auto insurance directly to federal government employees and their families. Since 1925, Goodwin had worked for USAA as an insurer who specialized in insuring only military personnel. He decided to start his own company after going as far as a civilian could go in the company.
GEICO has never been affiliated with a government organization and has always been a private corporation.
In 1974, the company started to insure the general public. They generally work with customers via telephone and the internet. They maintain 18 major offices across the US. GEICO offers many different types of insurance including pet insurance, which covers accidents, non-pre-existing illnesses, dental issues, cancer, and more. Their headquarters are in Chevy Chase, MD.
