AAFES Partners with Home Depot for Tax-Free Purchases & Military Discounts

AAFES

AAFES, the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, partnered with Home Depot to offer military discounts on major appliances purchased through AAFES.

Those authorized to shop at AAFES via ShopMyExchange.com can choose between a selection of major appliances offered by Home Depot on a “branded” page on the AAFES site.

Some military blogs call this move a “takeover,” but AAFES and Home Depot describe it as an expansion of existing operations and a partnership. Either way, the discounts are what most will be thinking of at check-out time.

That said, many AAFES locations may plan to sell their current non-Home Depot inventory until it is gone and transition to an all-Home Depot inventory. But there’s no way to tell how long that transition process might take or how long that exclusivity will last.

AAFES and Home Depot Appliance Deals for Military Shoppers

When shopping for appliances on the AAFES site, the Home Depot branded page offers expanded options on national brands, with the ability to schedule delivery and even get installation where offered.

Purchases via AAFES are tax-free, and these items feature “military exclusive pricing.”

Shoppers with a Military Star Card (a store credit card for AAFES shoppers and commissary users) can use the card to buy appliances offered under this partnership.

Online and In-Person Sales

You can buy Home Depot goods at AAFES.com (which redirects to ShopMyExchange.com but is easier to remember), but in-person shopping options are offered in select locations.

Home Depot and AAFES designed what they call “major appliance showrooms” at post exchanges and base exchanges:

  • Fort Moore, Georgia
  • Fort Cavazos, Texas
  • Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas
  • Dyess AFB, Texas
  • Fort Sill, Oklahoma

There are plans to have 60 such showrooms in the USA.

Types of Appliances Available Through the AAFES / Home Depot Partnership

There is a range of appliances for sale under this partnership. They include, but may not be limited to:

  • Washers
  • Dryers
  • Refrigerators
  • Freezers
  • Dishwashers
  • Ovens
  • Microwaves

These appliances may be purchased through AAFES.com, but you cannot get the same discounts shopping in person at a Home Depot location.

The deals under this partnership are offered to active duty, veterans, family members, and anyone authorized to use the Exchange.

Are You Authorized to Shop at AAFES?

Thanks to laws passed in 2020, there is an expanded list of those eligible to shop online and in-person at AAFES on a military base.

According to AAFES.com, “Approved Veterans can shop the online exchanges, including ShopMyExchange.com! Shopping with the Exchange online gives you access to exclusive military pricing and offers, tax-free shopping, and more.”

On January 1, 2020, the Department of Defense expanded in-store military exchange and commissary shopping privileges to:

  • Veterans with service-connected disabilities
  • Purple Heart recipients
  • Former prisoners of war
  • Primary caregivers for veterans in the VA Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers
