About Deer Valley
Skiing in Deer Valley started with the Park City Winter Carnivals of the 1930s. The WPA (Works Progress Administration) built the first ski trails and facilities in the winter of 1936-1937. The first ski lifts were put in in 1946 and the area was called the Snow Park Ski Area until 1969. In 1981, Edgar Stern founded Deer Valley Resort in the same area and above. Deer Valley opened on Bald Eagle and Bald Mountains with one double chairlift and four triple chairlifts. In 1991, the resort expanded into Flagstaff Mountain, and in 1998-1999, went through another major expansion. In 2002 the resort was a venue site for the 2002 Winter Olympics. In 2014, they bought Solitude Mountain Resort, and then they were sold to Alterra Mountain Company in 2017. Today it is one of the top ski resorts in North America with 24 lifts.
