About Jellystone Campgrounds
Jellystone Campgrounds are franchised through Leisure Systems and a subsidiary of the Park River Corporation out of Cincinnati, Ohio. The parks were founded in 1969 by Doug Haag and Robert Borkovetz with their first in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. Haag wanted to give families a place to camp and vacation in the summer and so purchased 30 acres of land in WI with his business partner to start the business. The inspiration for Jellystone came from watching his children watch the Yogi Bear cartoons. He then got approval from the licensor to associate the names with his campground. There are more than 75 campgrounds in 30 states and three Canadian provinces with an estimated 2 million campers who stay there each year.
