About Spirit Airlines
Spirit Airlines was at one time the 7th largest airline in the US. The company was started as Clippert Trucking Company in 1964. Airline service was added in 1983 in Macomb County, MI, as Charter One. In 1992, they bought jet aircraft and changed the name to Spirit Airlines. Spirit closed in May 2026.
