About Harry and David

They began in 1910 as Bear Creek Orchards when Samuel Rosenberg purchased Comice pear orchards in Southern, OR. His sons took over the business in 1914, and named the pears, “Royal Riviera.” They also started selling them to people in Europe. The Great Depression reduced the European demand for pears so they started marketing in the US. They began to sell mail-order officially in 1934. In 1946, they changed the name to Harry and David. In 1972, they created the Bear Creek Corporation as a parent company to Harry and David. In the 1990s they expanded and opened more than 119 stores. The website was opened in 1996. In 2012 they established a winery and sold the business to 1-800-Flowers in 2014. Most of their physical locations have closed but they still have their flagship store in Medford, OR. Their headquarters are in Medford, OR.
