Military Discounts for NHL Tickets

Hockey season is always a blast, and for the military community, it can also be cheaper. Between verification platforms, team pages, and nonprofits, there are multiple ways to save on NHL tickets (and gear), depending on the team and how you buy.

NHL Military Discounts Through Verification Platforms

The simplest way to find military discounts for NHL tickets is through online verification portals like ID.me and GovX.

ID.me

Verified military members can earn up to 2% cash back on NHL ticket purchases. It’s not an upfront discount at checkout, but it still puts a little money back in your pocket on tickets you’d be buying anyway. See ID.me’s NHL offers here.

GovX

A go-to site for military members, GovX regularly lists discounted sports tickets, including NHL games. You’ll need to verify your status, but once you do, you’ll see the savings. Here’s how current promotions break down. Verify here.

Based on the GovX promotions listed, here are the offers for each team:

    • Detroit Red Wings: Save up to 15 percent
    • Boston Bruins: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Buffalo Sabres: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Florida Panthers: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Tampa Bay Lightning: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Chicago Blackhawks: Save 10 percent

    • Utah Hockey Club: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Anaheim Ducks: Save over 25 percent
    • LA Kings: Save over 20 percent
    • San Jose Sharks: Save 10 percent
    • Seattle Kraken: Save up to 25 percent
    • Vegas Golden Knights: Save $20 on StubHub
    • Columbus Blue Jackets: Save over 15 percent
    • Pittsburgh Penguins: Save up to 30 percent
    • Washington Capitals: Save up to 20 percent
    • Carolina Hurricanes: Save $20 on StubHub

    • Philadelphia Flyers: Save $20 on StubHub

If you’re hoping to go beyond just a discount, a couple of nonprofits make it possible for service members and veterans to catch NHL games for little or no cost.

Veteran Tickets Foundation (Vet Tix)

Vet Tix partners with teams to provide free tickets to NHL games and other events for verified military members, veterans, and their families. Once tickets are donated, they’re posted on the VetTix site where you can claim them.

Operation Care and Comfort (OCC) Tickets for Troops

OCC also offers complimentary tickets to NHL games and other events through its Tickets for Troops program, providing military families with an opportunity to spend quality time together away from the daily grind.

NHL Team-Specific Military Discounts

Some NHL teams run their own ticket programs for service members and their families. While not every club offers one, a few stand out:

Carolina Hurricanes

The Carolina Hurricanes make it easy for service members to attend a game with discounted tickets available to active-duty servicemembers and veterans. Offers are posted each month, and all you need to do is verify through GovX at checkout to unlock the deal.

Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins offer military ticket discounts in partnership with GovX; details and eligible games can be found on the team’s ticket page.

Dallas Stars

The Stars list GovX military & first responder tickets for select games (with a per-game ticket cap); you’ll find the GOVX option in their ticket hub.

Chicago Blackhawks

The Blackhawks also run a GovX ticket program offering specially priced seats for select home games to active-duty, reserve, veteran, and retired servicemembers. Visit their site here.

St. Louis Blues

The Blues host Military Nights with specially priced tickets available online after GovX verification (while supplies last).

Washington Capitals

The Washington Capitals host a Veterans Day Special Ticket Package. Fans who purchase through the special link receive a military branch-themed Capitals hat.

Vegas Golden Knights

VGK makes it easy for season ticket members to donate seats to VetTix; the team also promotes Military Appreciation ticket offers around Veterans Day.

Buffalo Sabres

Sabres season ticket holders can donate their tickets directly to VetTix.  The club also runs Tickets for Troops, which provides complimentary seats to a veteran at each home game.

Seattle Kraken

The Kraken’s Special Ticket Offers page explicitly notes military deals among its discounted packages for select dates.

Anaheim Ducks

The Ducks go the extra mile for the military community. Reach out with questions to their ticketing contact at jkang@anaheimducks.com for information on specific games and deals.

LA Kings

The LA Kings celebrate military service through their Hero of the Game program, which highlights one active-duty or retired service member at each home game. The honoree and their guest get the full VIP treatment—four lower-level tickets, complimentary parking, and a pre-game dinner at the Lexus Club—capped off with special recognition on the ice during the National Anthem.

Fans can nominate themselves or someone they know by filling out the team’s online form or emailing Kings’ representative Gisel Ruezga at gruezga@lakings.com.

Other NHL Military Perks

NHL Shop (Fanatics) offers 15% off to active duty, reserve, veteran, and retired personnel, as well as their immediate families. All you need to do is add your desired items to the cart and verify your service through ID.me at checkout. The discount kicks in automatically, though it doesn’t stack with other promo codes and doesn’t apply to gift cards.
