What to Know About the Home Depot / AAFES Expanded Partnership

The Home Depot has expanded its partnership with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and the Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM), offering more products and savings to the military community.

In May 2025, a Home Depot press release about the expansion notes, “The Home Depot has expanded its tax-free shopping benefits to more military families across the nation through partnerships with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service and the Navy Exchange. This program, which initially focused on large appliances, now includes nearly all online products, offering significant savings to over 34 million eligible Exchange customers.”

What is the Home Depot Military Exchange Partnership?

This partnership allows eligible military community members to purchase a wide range of Home Depot products online with a military discount or related benefit through the official AAFES (ShopMyExchange.com) and NEX (myNavyExchange.com) websites.

Who is eligible for these benefits?

Eligibility for these benefits mirrors the criteria for shopping at AAFES. Generally, this includes active-duty service members from all branches, military retirees, honorably discharged veterans, and their dependents, including spouses. National Guard members, Reservists, and eligible Department of Defense (DoD) civilians and retirees are also typically included.

Can I use my Military Star Card?

Yes, the Military Star Card is accepted for purchases made through the Home Depot partnership on both the AAFES and NEX websites. Using the Military Star Card on ShopMyExchange.com might offer an additional perk, such as free standard shipping on all orders, not just major appliances. It’s advisable to check the specific Military Star Card benefits applicable on each BX/PX/NEX platform at the time of purchase.

What are the main benefits of shopping through this partnership?

All purchases made via AAFES websites are exempt from state and local sales tax, offering immediate savings. A 10% discount is applied to most full-priced, non-appliance merchandise, effectively stacking this discount with the tax-free benefit. For major appliance purchases, free shipping is included.

The Exchange also highlights the availability of “military-exclusive pricing,” particularly for appliances, combined with the tax-free advantage. Furthermore, orders are fulfilled and delivered conveniently through The Home Depot’s established network.

How is this different from the regular Home Depot Military Discount?

It’s important to understand the distinctions between the Exchange Partnership and the standard Home Depot Military Discount available in stores or on HomeDepot.com. Purchases through the official sites(ShopMyExchange.com or myNavyExchange.com) are tax-free, whereas purchases directly from Home Depot are subject to sales tax. While both programs offer a 10% discount, the partnership applies it to most non-appliance items on top of the tax-free savings.

Verification is a factor in claiming your discounts. The Exchange uses its registration system, while the standard discount requires verification via SheerID linked to a Home Depot account.

Finally, the product scope through the Exchange includes major appliances plus approximately 2 million other online items. In contrast, the standard discount applies only to select in-stock items and has numerous exclusions.

Where can I find the Home Depot showrooms in Exchange stores?

The Home Depot operates major appliance showrooms within approximately 90 AAFES and NEX store locations across the United States. These showrooms allow eligible shoppers to view appliance models in person before potentially ordering them online through the Exchange website to receive the partnership benefits. The initial rollout of these showrooms included locations such as Fort Moore (GA), Fort Cavazos (TX), Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph (TX), Dyess AFB (TX), and Fort Sill (OK).
