Fort Huachuca Check-In & In-Processing
If you’re coming onto the installation for the first time, enter through the Van Deman Gate. Staffers can point you to your unit, answer general questions about the installation, and provide a map to help you get your bearings.
Where you check in next depends on when you show up. During regular duty hours, you’ll go straight to your gaining unit. Officers sign in at their assigned organization, and enlisted Soldiers report to their battalion, or brigade S-1. If you arrive outside of duty hours, the Welcome Center can stamp your orders and help you secure temporary lodging so you’re not stuck waiting until morning.

Newcomer’s Briefing
Once you’ve officially signed in, your unit will set up the rest of your in-processing. Permanent party Soldiers are scheduled for the Personnel Processing Center briefing, held Tuesdays from 7:30 a.m. to noon at TAPS (908 Butler Rd., Building 22420). That session handles your personnel records, travel pay, and medical and dental record updates in one stop.
You’ll also attend the Newcomers Orientation on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to noon at the Murr Community Center (Building 51301). That briefing covers everything from legal assistance and family programs to environmental services, ASAP/Suicide Prevention, and Child & Youth Services, giving you a full picture of what’s available on post.

Fort Huachuca Housing & Lodging
On-Base Housing
Housing on Fort Huachuca is privatized and managed by Mountain Vista Communities (MVC), in a partnership between the Army and Michaels Military Housing. On-post options include one- and two-story single-family homes and duplexes, ranging from 1880s cavalry-era homes to newly built and recently renovated units.
MVC oversees the housing neighborhoods, while Michaels Military Housing handles construction and long-term development under its 50-year plan to modernize more than a thousand family units. Currently, the installation has about 1,120 homes available with new builds and renovations continuing over the next several years.

Sierra Vista: At just 4 miles, Sierra Vista is the closest city to Fort Huachuca and the main off-post housing area. It offers a wide range of rental properties and homes for sale, as well as quick access to schools, shopping, and services.
Huachuca City: A small town about 7 miles from base, Huachuca City is popular with families looking for quieter neighborhoods and lower housing costs.
Hereford: Located roughly 23 miles from base, Hereford has a more rural feel, with larger lots, mountain views, and a mix of newer homes and established neighborhoods.
