About Avis
Avis was founded in 1946 with three cars at the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti, MI by Warren Avis. It established branch operations across the US and in 1956, it opened its first international offices in Europe, Canada, and Mexico. Their motto, “We Try Harder” was adopted in 1963, and used until 2012 when they rebranded with, “It’s Your Space.” Avis has been owned by different companies over the years, with the Avis Budget Group taking over in 2006. They have over 5,000 locations, in all 50 states and Washington DC as well as locations in Africa, Asia Pacific, Canada, the Caribbean, Europe, Japan, Kosovo, Latin America, the Middle East, the Russian Federation, and Timor, with their headquarters in Parsippany, NJ.
