About Whirlpool
Whirlpool was started in 1911 by Louis Upton, and his uncle Emory Upton in Benton Harbor, MI as the Upton Machine Company. In 1916, Sears became their customer and by 1921 they appointed Upton as their only supplier of washers. They merged with the Nineteen Hundred Washer Company in 1929 and renamed themselves the Nineteen Hundred Corporation.
In 1947 the company introduced an automatic spinner-type washer under the Kenmore brand. Then sold it a year later under the Whirlpool name and changed their name to the Whirlpool Corporation in 1949. Over the years, they have grown and now own companies such as Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir. Their headquarters are in Benton Charter Township, MI.
