About Au Pair in America
They were established in 1986 and were the first organization to be designed by the US government to offer a legal Au Pair program. They have placed more than 90,000 Au Pairs from nearly 60 countries with American host families in 40 states. They started with a two-year pilot program. Congress then enacted the Eisenhower Exchange Fellowship Act which allowed the program to be extended indefinitely. In 1999, regulation of the program was transferred to the Department of State Educational and Cultural Affairs Bureau. Their headquarters are in Stamford, CT and they allow parents who have served in the military to apply for free.
