About Big Bear Mountain

Big Bear Mountain Resort is two resorts, in the San Bernardino Mountains, located by Big Bear Lake, in Southern California. The resorts are called Snow Summit and Bear Mountain. Originally, Snow Summit and Goldmine Mountain operated independently, although they are less than two miles apart. In 1988, S.K.I, a major ski area operator, bought Goldmine and changed the name to Bear Mountain. They also invested to improve it and make the resort a competitive ski resort against Snow Summit. In 2002, Snow Summit purchased Bear Mountain and they became one company. Lift tickets from one can be used at the other. In 2014, they were bought by Mammoth Mountain, which was then bought by Alterra Mountain Company in 2017 who owns the resort today. Their headquarters are in Denver, CO.
