About Hertz Rental Car
The Hertz Corporation owns Dollar and Thrifty Automotive Group. Hertz Global Holdings is the parent company of the Hertz Corporation. The Hertz Corporation was originally known as Rent a Car Inc. and was founded in Chicago, IL by native Walter L. Jacobs in 1918. They began with a dozen Model T. cars and expanded to 600 vehicles in five years. They were renamed to Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System in 1923 when John D. Hertz bought them. He sold it to General Motors Corporation in 1926 but bought it back in 1953 and renamed it the Hertz Corporation. They opened in Canada in 1938, Europe in 1950, and South America in 1961.
