Sunbasket was founded in 2014 by Justine Kelly, Adam Zbar, Tyler MacNiven, and George Nachtrieb. In 2018, the company worked with the American Diabetes Association to introduce diabetes-friendly recipes and with the American Cancer Society to create meals that meet their guidelines. In 2021 they merged with Prüvit Ventures, which is a keto supplement maker. Their headquarters are in San Francisco, CA.
