About KitchenAid

KitchenAid was started when engineer Herbert Johnston created the stand mixer after watching a baker mix dough and thought there had to be a better way. The “H” model mixer was launched for industrial work in 1914. The US Navy ordered mixers for a few of their battleships. After the stand mixers became standard equipment on all US Navy ships, they started to develop the first home models. The first machine with the KitchenAid name was introduced in 1918. In 1985, the company purchased the Chambers Company, and in 1986, the Whirlpool Corporation purchased KitchenAid. The same year refrigerators were added and in the mid-1990s, they started making blenders and other small appliances. A ProLine range of appliances was launched in 2003. About Maytag

Maytag was founded in 1893 by a businessman named Frederick Maytag and his three partners in Newton, IA. They began with farm equipment such as a threshing machine. The company created its first washer in 1907 and called it the Pastime.

They added its first electric washing machine in 1911. In 1925, they became Maytag, Inc. and were able to still make a profit during the Depression. The company participated in war production during WWII and went back to selling washing machines in 1946. They became the Maytag Corporation in 1986. In 2006, Whirlpool acquired Maytag. Their headquarters are in Benton Harbor, MI.

Whirlpool was started in 1911 by Louis Upton, and his uncle Emory Upton in Benton Harbor, MI as the Upton Machine Company. In 1916, Sears became their customer and by 1921 they appointed Upton as their only supplier of washers. They merged with the Nineteen Hundred Washer Company in 1929 and renamed themselves the Nineteen Hundred Corporation. In 1947 they introduced an automatic spinner-type washer under the Kenmore brand. Then sold it a year later under the Whirlpool name and changed their name to the Whirlpool Corporation in 1949.
