Alaska Airlines is a major American airline headquartered in SeaTac, Washington. They offer military fares, and other benefits to military travelers.

What is the Alaska Airlines Military Discount?

Alaska Airlines offers special military fares to active duty and dependents in some markets. This discount is valid on Alaska Airlines flights, and Horizon, SkyWest, and PenAir flights operated as Alaska Airlines flights. You may be required to buy a new ticket purchased via Alaska Airlines’ call center.

What Other Benefits Does Alaska Airlines Offer?

  • If you have booked a military fare, the service member and dependent may qualify for up to 5 bags free of charge. In addition, active duty military and active duty dependents on travel orders also receive 5 bags free of charge. Bags can be up to 70 lbs.
  • Alaska Airlines offers 15% off of food purchased on the airplane to all members of the military and their families.
  • The Alaska Airlines official site says, “Trained service animals travel for free with proper documentation. We also offer active military members and their dependents a pet shipping discount on Alaska Air Cargo.” The official site does not list the amount of the discount, which may be applied at checkout time.
  • Active duty military can board the plane early.

How Do You Get The Discount?

In order to receive the special fares, you will have to call 1-800-252-7522. You will need to have a valid military ID or seperation papers for travel within 7 days of discharge from active military service.

Dependents need to be a legal relation of the military members, have proper identification, and those ages 10 and up will need to have a valid ID with “active” on it.
