Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin Base History

The Defense Distribution Depot San Joaquin site conducts operations through the Tracy Facility and the Sharpe Facility in San Joaquin County, California.

The DDSJ readily aided all branches of the US military in their efforts in World War II beginning in 1942 by utilizing the proximity to rail stations and a sea port. This made shipping supplies on all fronts convenient. In 1950, Tracy Facility changed hands to another system and kept up its efforts to supply operations in the Korean War, followed by supporting the Vietnam War not long after in the 1960’s.

Just before the turn of the millennium, the Sharpe Facility merged with the Tracy Depot, which reduced the necessary staff to support the facility. The site continues to be a central hub for all supply relations within the US military.
