About Under Armour
Under Armour was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, who was a former special teams captain of the University of Maryland football team. He began the business in his grandmother’s basement in Washington DC.
While in college he got tired of changing out of sweat-soaked t-shirts worn under his jersey but also noticed that his compression shorts stayed dry. That inspired him to make a t-shirt using moisture-wicking synthetic fabric.
You can now find them in 39 states as well as Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and China. Their headquarters are in Baltimore, Maryland.
